CAT5 is hot! CAT5, the familiar twisted-pair wiring used for computer networking, is now exploding on the A/V distribution scene. Using advanced SMT engineering and circuit designs, manufacturers such as Audio Authority, Key Digital, Zektor, and Intelix have made made great strides in efficiently distributing HDTV using economical CAT5 cable. Now the days of long and expensive runs of component, HDMI, and DVI cabling are gone and replaced with small CAT5 transmitters and receivers.

Using CAT5 cabling for long cable runs can drastically reduce the overhead associated with DVI, HDMI, and combination audio/video analog cables. CAT5 can be run for very long distances, often up to 1000ft including audio, without degrading quality.
